Camping with Daddy

That's right you guessed it...We are now the proud owners of a pop up camper. I don't know what I was thinking when I agreed to this purchase, because now I feel the pressure of learning to cook over an open fire, and keep a clean camper. These two things are not possible while camping with three young children.

The words fire and clean are a little scary and impossible.

With that said, Ken is living the high life and will without a doubt get the last laugh when he get's me out in the woods in that thing. He is like a kid with a new toy. He is now in the process of collecting all the toys to go with it, and learning how to be a woodsman...This should be fun!

Because the excitement was so unbearable he decided to ake the girls out camping one weekend.

You heard me right...Me and Eli stayed at home in the comfort of the indoors. Besides it was too cold for Eli to be out on this particular weekend. (I'm going with that excuse as long as it will last:))

The girls were thrilled about the whole adventure and thought it was way cool that there is a potty in the camper...You know this was a BIG selling point for me as well! I do not do well with public potties, especially with the kids wanting to touch everything in sight!

They loved burning wood, roasting marshmellows and throwing anything on the fire that might burn.

Let me just say this...You have NEVER seen two girls with more dried marshmellow muck stuck in their hair when they got home. Thay looked like puppies with long matted ears. Appearantly bathing and brushing hair were not the priority on this particular camping trip, and they could have cared less.

All they cared about was spending time with their Daddy doing things they all thought was fun. He is such an amazing man, and an even more outstanding Dad.
I'll keep you posted about MY first trip out with the bunch! This should be good, Right?
Anyone with any good camping advice, besideds not going!?!

Familly is #1!

This being the day before election day, I thought it only appropriate that I let my view be known to the world. This was not a hard decision for me...

God will still be God no matter who wins, and He will still be on His throne, and He will still be gracious and mercilful. Even so...

I choose LIFE!
and
I choose FAMILY!

I hope it's not hard to see why this decision was an easy one for me!

The "Girled" or "Grilled" misunderstanding!

For years now, in our home, there has been some confusion about the grilled cheese sandwich. I can vividly remember offering to make these lovely, protien filled, sandwiches one time to my then three year old, Ashlyn. Her response was one that we have laughed about for years..."No, I want a boy-cheese sandwich! I understand that "girl" and "grilled" can be easily confused when you are a three year old. Right?

Well, the misunderstanding was sadly laid to rest today. I once again offered to make her a "grilled" cheese sandwich today for lunch. She was very excited, because she is nothing if not a total cheese lover. She then said to me seriously, "What do Boy's eat?" Do they eat "boy"-cheese sandwiches?"

Of course I had to laugh to myself....

Then there was this moment of saddness knowing I was going to have to tell her the truth...

She's old enough now to hear and know the difference between "girled" and "grilled".

After the explanation...there was silence for a moment...

Then laughter!

She thought it was so funny that she thought it was "girled" instead of "grilled".

I was a little sad though at the death of "girled" cheese sandwiches...

I think for me they will always be ..."Girled".

Am I nuts?

Is there a smell that takes you back in time?

Is there a sound that yanks you back to the 80's, and makes you want to roller skate really fast?

Are there foods that remind you of your Grandmother's cooking?

Well, if any of these things are true then you might relate to the story I'm about to tell you.

When I'm going on a trip, there's nothing that get's me more excited about the destination than, Picante corn nuts. What? you have never had them! Well I'm not surprised, they are one of lifes best kept secrets. Ken and I went looking for pop up campers yesturday, and I was craving some Picante Corn nuts for the drive, We stopped three times, and finally found some on the third try. Whatsupwithat?

Apparently they are very loved by others or they are unknown by everyone. So, I am here as a picante corn nut lover to ask that you all my loyal followers go right out and try some today. If you can find them. You must be warned though...

1. You can't eat just one. Ask Ken... he kept asking for more.
2. They leave you with the worst dragon breath ever!!! But, I'm telling you, it is so worth it.

Maybe if we all rally together, they won't be so hard to find the next time I need them for a roadtrip!
Come on people, Let's go NUTS for Picante Corn Nuts!

Roughin' It!

Okay! Okay! I know you are all laughing out loud right now...
go ahead, get it out of your system...
enough now!
Let me tell you about our family stay in the Wig Wam village in Cave City Kentucky. If you know me at all, you know that I am not a camping kidna girl. at all. My idea of camping is an out of date Holiday Inn. You laugh, but I am not kidding.
My friend Stacey asked us a year ago if we would like to go on this little adventure. Well, I must have been post pardum, because I eagerly said, "yes!"
Okay so here is your personal tour...
I will be your guide.
Put the key in the 5 foot door, and bend down to get in if you are taller than that. stand inside the door and you see two full size beds three feet away from one another, with what looked to be the original comforters...Let's think about that for a moment......can you say NNNNIIIICCCEEEE!
Moving on...You look toward the back of the Wig Wam and you see one door, I was so happy to know there was a bathroom behind door number one...However, it was small. You could wash your hands while using the potty at the same time, and while sitting there you are only one step away from the shower...But don't forget your flip flops it is quite a nasty walk from here to there!
do you ge tthe picture????!!!!
Lucky for me our accomidations came with a working window unit air conditioner...We slept well, but my hair smelt like hot dog on fire for the whole weekend....It might look good, but it smelt horrible. Looks can be decieving!
All joking aside, we had a fun weekend, and I survived the ruggedness.
Ashlyn said, "Mommy I will never forget this weekend!"
I won't either! not soon anyway!

Long time NO Blog!

So our last post was Christmas? Really? That is very sad, and an obvious sign that our lives are not our own anymore...If they ever were to begin with. Let me give you all a brief update on where we stand: Ashlyn has been obsessed the past few months about losing a tooth. We wish it were contagious because ALL of her friends have lost one, and now when she hears of another friend having lost one, she simply rolls her eyes and groans out loud, as if to say, "Why not me!" Karis has enjoyed talking on her pretend cell phone. I never realized how much she must hear me talk on the phone, because she repeates everything I say. for example: "Okay, Okay, I will e-mail you, okay? Okay Thank you, Your Welcome!!" This one of her famous sayings lately. Last, but not least, Eli! What a gift, and a joy he is. I absolutely look forward to hearing his little voice wanting me to come and care for him. He is now rolling everywhere and eating mostly table food too.

Our Awsome Christmas!

Our family celebrated one of our best Christmas' to date. Maybe it was because of the girls, and how magical they made it by believing in Santa, and anticipating Jesus' Birthday, and His arrival on Christmas morning. Santa was so sweet to put Jesus in Ashlyn's stocking, and she was thrilled that it was her and not Karis! They both asked for "real hammers", so they both got new tool boxes to take with hem to Home Depot when they go on kids day with Dad to do their special projects. They were complete with hammers, safety goggles, rainbow suspenders, tape measures and hard hats. Karis spent most of her morning measuring everyone and everything. She told me I measured "30 pounds!" I just love that girl!

Eli enjoyed Christmas in other ways. He loved playing with all the stuffed animals, and chewing on all the paper. We even put him in a gift bag, and he thought that was perfect. He is still easy going, and always ready with a smile. Even on Christmas he was still demanding to eat on schedule, and required a nap, imagine that.

Karis proved that it is the little things in life that make you happy! She loved her paper and her 20 rolls of scotch tape...I can't wait to see what kind of mess she creates.
